A Bus Load Of Faith

It takes a busload of faith to get by - Lou Reed.

Lou Reed sang, "It takes a busload of faith to get by." And ain't that so.

Here is a poem about a lady I once knew. She had a busload and then some. We all live our own private horrors. My heroes are those that can get through them and still laugh and still carry on bringing life and kindness and joy to others. And that takes a busload of faith.

……………………………………………………………….

It takes a busload of faith
to get by.

And Lorna goes to church twice a week
never missin’.

Still, the good Lord
keeps taking her kids away.

First Will her oldest,
stray bullet from a drive-by.

Next, Skyra
who got raped and
stepped off the stage
helped by God’s hand.

Finally last week,
Timmy her youngest,
head on collision.
It was Sunday morning.

I ask her why she still
believes in the Lord
and she pulls hard on her menthol,
throws her head back
and laughs, saying,
“I still believe in Santa Claus too!”
