Among The Trees

A poem after walking a few hours in the mountains here

When I am among the trees
I hear no cries of joy nor
screams of suffering nor
wailings of an impending end.

When I am among the trees
I hear the solid truth of life
and the hug of wind and
the silence of forever that
will never vanish with form
nor figure nor human greed.

When I am among the trees
I look up and feel at home
ready to give myself to that
which is my own kin and
that which is always welcoming.

When I am among the trees
there is no honking of horns
nor gnashing of teeth and
the moments do not desire
another’s end - we are together
alive and resplendent in
the nature within us all.
