An Affirmation
The power of "yes". Hallelujah, praise, acceptance of all, is the road to grace and deliverance.
Yes to all that’s so holy.
Yes to all things with holes.
Yes to the rain
says the wet, wetter mole.
Yes to Mondays, holidays, Tuesdays too.
Yes to debt.
Yes to what moves you through
this world of yes, we know.
Yes to the hangman’s noose.
Yes to the murderers on the loose.
Yes to not having enough.
Yes to having too much.
Yes to the question — What’s for lunch?
Yes to what I was.
Yes to the failure I’ll be.
Yes to the heavyweight champ
drunk on the steps
under me
now, 20 years on.
Yes to my headache, backache, what’s sore.
Yes to necessity, desire, wanting more.
Yes to the sun that always goes down.
Yes to this moment, in poems I’m found.
Yes to just being allowed to say yes
to that which asks you to dance
and keep going
‘round n’ ‘round.
Yes to all things, dead or alive.
Yes to laziness, yes to those that strive.
Yes. Yes. Yes! Dumb or wise.
We are here — that’s the only non-lie.
