Beauty Is Everywhere

What if we took the energy we spent to manufacture beauty and invested it in just learning to see the beauty that already exists in the world, here and now?

“When one hugs a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world.” - John Muir

There is so much beauty in everything, if only we’d teach our souls (not just our eyes) to see it. I wrote about this previously here.

My daily walk is along some very tame, manufactured trails of the mountain facing and across the street from where we live. I say “mountain” because it looks like one. Miniature mountain, let’s call it.

It’s a time to notice things off the road more traveled. Leaves glistening with dew. Insects inching along to somewhere. The wind singing through the branches, nature’s orchestra.

I sit down at the end of our walk/run to just relax, tune out. We all should do so, daily, in some way. Even if it is only in bed, quiet, peacefully resetting yourself before the day begins.

Today, I got to thinking about how we worship “manufactured beauty” - paintings, skyscrapers, lookout points, wooden walkways. At the same time not seeing the beauty inherent in the ordinary. We take trips to far off places to experience wonderous beauty when the same is already at hand - all around us.

Something to think about. I think we need to get better at being in the NOW and part of that is learning to experience the beauty every present, everywhere. Begin with this thought - how beautiful YOU are. And move out from there.

I put the words of Rachel Carson to image, in this video. We need reminding.
