Christmas Teacher Care
There has been a lot of “buzz” about teacher self-care lately. Well, I’m all for that and especially at Christmas. It’s the time to step back so to jump ahead further.
Here are my off-the-top-of-my-head ideas on taking care of your teacher self this Christmas holiday season. Find some inspiration! Also, see this nice teacher wellness guide for a more serious read.
#1 Vacate (like “vacation” ) your mind. Your holiday won’t benefit you if you don’t take the time to really, truly, madly, deeply, empty your mind of your teaching “stuff”.
#2 No social media. No politics. None of the usual stuff. No. No. No. Need I say again, “clear your mind”.
#3. Family, friends, strangers. Kiss, hug, cuddle, engage with others that mean a lot to you. Make the time to connect and renew your human spirit.
#4. Sing! Yes. Even if it is to yourself in the mirror. Belt out some of those Xmas classics. You’ll feel loads better.
#5. Dance. Same reason as above.
#5. Binge on your favorite movies and shows. Curl up and get away!
#6. Drink some egg nog. It’s scientifically proven it’ll help you relax and chill.
#7. Go tobogganing. Let go. Do something thrilling.
#8. Read. Relax. Repeat. Just curl up with a cheap novel and let the words carry you away.
#9. Find a hot tub. Your neighbors’, the local YMCA or health club, a friends’.
#10. Say this to yourself 10x every day. YOU ARE PERFECT.
