I’m sitting here blissfully
in my hammock
watching the birds, the bugs
this world itself
repose,
swing by,
but I know
it won’t last for long.
They’ll never let you
sit for long.
Not with your kids.
Not with your thoughts.
Not with any peace of mind.
Never gonna happen.
The greedy, the too smart.
The vain, the too powerful.
The rich and the too busy.
Will always be knocking
bothering you and
making sure you
live up to their expectations.
They’re improving their algorithms.
They’ll make another war
on something about nothing.
Invent new forms of notifications.
Manufacture fear in a lab.
Offer you free stuff
(but free is too expensive).
Message your mind to buy this or
you are missing out on that or
even worse
will die.
You might get
15 minutes here
30 minutes there
a week or two each year
free of the panic, the push.
But don’t kid yourself,
that’s all you’ll get.
They are always gonna
be coming for you.
They need you.
And they’ve convinced us
we need them.
