Pulling Back The Curtain
We need to let the emperors know, that we know, they aren't wearing any clothes.
This ain’t no Oz, Dorthy.
The forest was shrinking, but the trees kept voting for the axe because its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them. ~ Turkish proverb.
Politics. We all vote and nothing changes. It is like the old post-communism Peristroika joke …
“We pretend to vote and they pretend to fix everything and we all pretend the world is getting better.”
It ain’t.
If anything is to be learned about politics in the last 30 or 40 years especially, it is that the big cheese, the big hope, el chefe ain’t gonna save us. They just play us like the poor fiddle, we the lowly people are.
There is no government for the people, by the people anymore. It’s all $ signs and what’s in it for me ism. It’s all just say whatever it takes to become one of the gang and screw them, voters - they just are dupes.
So, what next?
I suggest we go NOTA - None Of The Above. Actually, a few countries do this.
Next election, get organizing and outside every polling station, set up a chair and table and a volunteer. People can sign for None Of The Above. Opt-out. Fukem.
At least until we get NOTA on the ballot card.
Would you keep standing in line for bread when the bakery is always out of flour? No. So why do we keep voting? If Donald Trump taught us anything, politicians don’t matter - they change nothing and things will keep going on, around, off.
NOTA. What do you think?
Democracy
There is no problem with democracy.
It works just fine, as intended.
The problem is the grease in this machine
and the moving parts.
Think of yourself and your extended family.
Multiply that by 9, 10, 50 million, a billion
and you’ll sum up this problem
and why so much of our world
remains a snafu.
There is no fix
there are too many
moving parts.
We’ve been through
so much hopeful change
and spat out so many saviors
saying they’ll fix it all.
Nothing works.
There is no problem with democracy.
The problem is YOU
and your foolish hope that
will believe anything,
your insufferable optimism
that the con men count on.
And there is a lot of you.
That is the problem.
