Royal Lunacy
Whatever happened to the light that was the enlightenment? When reason and the individual ruled and sought out free lives under the emblem of equality? I'm wondering.
So, we got a king. Bada bing! Presto! Pull the lever and a new ruler is born.
See my poem below or watch the Youtube version. Damn royal lunacy.
It’s such magical thinking. A few months ago I wrote about the Queen. I got a lot of vitriol over that post but stand by it 100%.
We also still got vaccine mandates and governments deciding ad hoc for their peasantry what needles they need and don’t need. All this, based on our propensity to obey those higher up the food chain and bend to unnatural authority.
We need a damn Peasants’ Revolt. Whatever happened to the enlightenment? Where is this moment’s Wat Tyler? I’m waiting but might have to step up myself - so asleep the world seems to the lunacy. Royal lunacy.
“One of the strongest natural proofs of the folly of hereditary right in kings, is, that nature disapproves it, otherwise, she would not so frequently turn it into ridicule by giving mankind an ass for a lion.”
― Thomas Paine, Common Sense
The enlightenment. Ecrasez l’infame - Down with the infamy (lunacy) shouted Voltaire. A time of equality, brotherhood, man informed by reason. Down with kings, queens, priests, cardinals, squires, barons and all that blue-blooded balderdash. Whatever happened to the enlightenment (I ask again)?
Yet here we are - some 300 years on. No more the wiser. Still ruled by class, entitlement, those who plundered, killed, ruled continents or business empires and feel like that makes them someone we should bow down to, curtsy for, line streets and clap for, as they play a part in a play of regalry. Bullshit!
Watching the charade of the Royals changing of the guard is truly stupefying and ridiculous. We have a confirmed adulterer, a dolt, a ruined man by the hand of his more ruinous father - pretending in his finery to be above us all and entitled to lead us all. Sorry, he is no anointed one. Like his pedophile brother, he’s a broken, mixed-up man. He’d be best locked up in a lunatic asylum.
Even the president of the United States sometimes has to stand naked. - Bob Dylan
And what’s worse the whole world cheers! Ad hominems galore! We truly are a poor, confused, magical-thinking beast. We WANT to be ruled, told what to do, to think god is here on earth in the form of a pope or king. OMG.
“Given a choice between a folly and a sacrament, one should always choose the folly—because we know a sacrament will not bring us closer to god and there’s always the chance that a folly will.”
― Erasmus
I remember reading Faludy’s fine biography of Erasmus of Rotterdam. A bright light of the enlightenment. He outlined the world to come with the advent and success of the enlightenment. No king, no pope, no obedience. Freedom. A world, 50 years ago when reading that book, I thought could come to pass. I no longer believe such.
“I would rather obey a fine lion, much stronger than myself, than two hundred rats of my own species.”
― Voltaire
We want royalty. We want priests and all-knowing “rich men” (you know them, the ones that take credit for everything but do nothing much - Musk, Gates, Bezos and all the other clowns). We, the people, the peasants sing in our chains. Bread and circuses are enough. Let there be a dictator, an emperor, a church, a government to tell us, poor headless creatures, what to do! Or god forbid.
I’ve had it. I will struggle but I don’t believe in the well-lit paradise of human equality, brotherhood and fraternity. We’ve all shown our colors, true colors like the tale Ivan tells in the Grand Inquisitor chapter. We don’t want to be saved. It’s much easier to just obey someone and believe the illusion, the stupidity rather than stand up off our knees and be free men, responsible for our own being.
Man is born free but everywhere he’s in chains. - Rousseau
God, don’t save this king!
