Staying The Course

You read anything
You watch anything
You listen to anything
and it’s essentially …
The world is fucked. War, sickness, natural disasters, man-made disasters, murder, poverty, homelessness … Need I go on.
However, YOU can change YOU. You just have to do this, be that. Think this to change that. Destroy your ego, don’t eat meat, protest, get off social media, get on social media, join this group, avoid that group, hum, dance, sing your way to nirvana. You get the point.
Why can’t we just accept the world as it is?
What is this deep need, this most physical of laws that makes us, forces us to think we must do better, improve, escape now, change?
As for me
I’m not going anywhere.
I’m not changing anything.
I’m a bear at
the back of its cave
winter coming on.
I laugh at the infomercials.
I scoff at the drugs the TV pawns.
I stroll past the self-help section
straight into the back
of my momentary mind
where la plus ca change
la plus c’est le meme chose.
I’m not going anywhere.
I’m not changing anything.
The world is ok
as it fucked up is.
I refuse to add to the pain of this world.
I refuse to be an evil do-gooder.
