Advice To The Girl On The Bus Somewhere Along A Road I Was Traveling in Asia
It was a bumpy ride but you seemed
to take it all in stride and after
our brief chat
you looked directly,
sadly at me
saying,
“You’re lucky.
I’ve always wanted to travel.
But it just never happened.”
Now home and now that
we are both just words on a page,
I’ve got the time to give you some advice
- JUST GO.
Not tomorrow or next week. Now.
Put a few things in a bag and
walk out your door.
Rich or poor,
Turn left, turn right,
doesn’t matter
it’s the traveling that matters.
There are too many pianos
falling from the sky,
too many microbes with axes
ready to cut you down with
one solid swack,
too few breaths left …
Don’t press your luck.
Life, delicate life
sings a soft song
from her cage.
Listen.
Let her out.
Let that song bird in you
fly free.
Don’t let yourself be
a statistic
a should have
a dream deferred.
Don’t let gravity win.
Get out there and mix.
Go see for yourself with
your own eyes and ears
what the beauty
of this world offers up
for free.
Travel light and let
the breeze blow
through your open mind.
See others as yourself
and melt into an energy
that you, me, he, she, they, we are.
Go. Now.
Don’t get off the bus.
Just keep going.
It’s that simple.
Excellent!
