“But my dear Degas,” exclaimed Mallarmé, “poems are made of words, not ideas!”
I sent in my poetry
and got a call back from
the editor.
He asked why one poem
has no title.
I explained,
it just felt right,
”le moment juste”.
He said, “We can’t have any of that.”
I replied, “Why?”
He responded, “The reader
needs to know quickly what
the poem is about.”
“hmmm,” I pondered.
”Can’t they just take the time
to read a line or two?”
“Nope. People expect a title.”
So I went with a title
as you can well see,
if you follow me.
