“Clowns to the left of me. Joker’s to the right. Here I am.”
Paycheck cashed.
You are king for a day
or two,
Glenfiddich, gin
a bucket of KFC
chicks on both arms
then
a few days later (depending)
you’re rummaging through
pants and the couch
looking for some loose change
to buy a pack of cigs or
baloney for your sandwiches.
The thing is
these ups and downs
these swells and wakes
these tides in and out
are the life you live
and can’t shake
cuz
the man’s got you by the balls
’nd
there is nothing you can do
about that.
Do not deny us our sedatives!
Our rebel cry
’nd thank god for that,
this minor blessing
the only thing
those muther pukers
won’t dare lay their hands on.
Ride the waves
the ups ‘n downs.
There is no ship coming in.
Just bread, circuses and clowns.
