Beautiful People

They are all around, you just have to give yourself permission to see them.

“I got saved by the beauty of the world.” Mary Oliver

The more I live and experience the miracle that is my life, life here on this spinning orb of chance and necessity … the more I’m impressed by the beauty of those around me.

In each human, those I might despise and those I regale, is a beauty that I can’t define. It’s a living process and struggle that is brought to light if one has the right eyes, the right soul to see it, sense it.

Once you let go of the categories we stuff people in - once we learn to listen to “the other”, beauty is the only thing that one can behold. It is a Whitmanesque feeling and squeal that will rock you endlessly once you start seeing the beautiful people all around you.

Lately, in preparation for my own voyage to experience the beautiful people of America (more on that forthcoming) - I’ve been revisiting David Lynch’s Project Interview. His whole catalogue of short interviews was released late last year, just before we lost this beautiful man.

I hope readers will take a watch. It will enrich you. Watch and then ponder all the beautiful people around you, in your own family, on your own street, in your community and wider circles.

PS. A few other fine series of this same ilk I recommend. Soft White Underbelly. 7 Billion Others.

From Where Comes The Essence Of Anything?

What beauty in the brilliant sun!
Or is that beauty in my eye?
Or perhaps somewhere between,
Drifting with indifferent sky.

How sweet the sound of Orpheus’ lyre!
Or is that sweetness in my ear?
Or perhaps somewhere between,
Hidden by the wind unseen.

What evil oozes from the witch!
Or is that evil in my mind?
Or perhaps somewhere between,
Where witch and I are of the same kind.

From where comes the essence of anything?
Does it come from the self as the doctors say?
Does it come from the thing as the natives pray?

From where comes the essence of anything?
